Oxford's Infectious Disease Response Plan

Dear Oxford Family,

As you are no doubt aware, a new coronavirus and its ensuing disease, COVID-19, has been sweeping the globe. Locally, the City of San Antonio has declared a public health emergency as a result. While the number of cases of this virus in the United States remains low, your Church Council has been hard at work developing an Infectious Disease Response Plan than we can use in this situation and others.

This plan will automatically kick in each year with the first service of Advent, and it will end each year following the Good Friday service. This will remind us to increase precautions during the height of the cold and flu season here in San Antonio. In the event of a local outbreak of an infectious disease, this plan will prescribe additional precautions to keep all of us healthy and safe. Some of these precautions will mean a change to our service. For example, we may ask you to use hand sanitizer after passing the peace, or we may skip passing the peace altogether. We ask that you be tolerant should we need to enact such precautions, as members of our family include those in demographics for whom even a minor infection for most could prove fatal to them.If you fall ill to any infectious disease, please consider attending via our online services rather than in person. The common flu can often remain infectious for a week, and the common cold can often be infectious for up to two weeks. If you run a fever, please do NOT attend services in person until your temperature has been below 100 degrees F for at least 24 hours before the service without the use of fever-reducing medications. If you need help setting up your computer to view our services online, please call the church office, and preferably before you fall ill. We’ll be happy to do what we can to help you get set up.

We understand that this virus has given many cause for concern, but God has not given us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). We have been preparing, and we continue to prepare should COVID-19 – or any other infectious disease – hit San Antonio. God has seen our church through many challenges, and He will see us through COVID-19 as well. A reminder to wash your hands frequently, and especially after eating!
